Nitrogen fertilizer accelerates nitrogen translocation in wheat, impacting growth and yield.
Nitrogen fertilizer affects how wheat plants store and use nitrogen. Researchers studied six hybrid wheat plants and their parents to see how nitrogen levels impacted nitrogen storage in different plant parts. They found that nitrogen application increased nitrogen content in all plant parts, but didn't change how nitrogen was stored. Leaves stored nitrogen before flowering, while grains stored the most after. Nitrogen application sped up nitrogen movement in leaves but not in other parts. Without nitrogen, plants were better at moving nitrogen around efficiently. But with nitrogen, this efficiency decreased.
