Ancient Sedimentary Discoveries Unveil Qaidam Basin's Environmental Evolution.
The researchers studied the sedimentary facies of the Paleogene in Qaidam Basin by analyzing various data sources. They identified seven types of sedimentary facies, including alluvial fan, braided river, floodplain, fan delta, braided river delta, lake, and turbidite fan. The sedimentary water in the region evolved from shallow to deep under the influence of structural changes. Different sedimentary systems were observed in different zones of the basin, such as fan delta-turbidite fan-lake system in the western Altun Mountains, alluvial fan-braided river-lake system in the middle Altun Mountains, and braided river-floodplain system in the eastern and northern margin of Qaidam Basin.
