Climate change driving rapid decline of wetlands in Jilin western part.
The researchers studied changes in wetland landscapes in Jilin's western part from 1954 to 2000. They used maps and satellite data to analyze the patterns and driving forces behind these changes. Wetland areas initially decreased, then increased after 1996 due to policies returning farmland to forests or grasslands. Wetlands were mainly found in river floodplains, oxbow lakes, and low-lying areas. Climate change played a role in wetland reduction, but human activities also had a significant impact on the landscape.
