Reservoir Water Decline and Rainfall Could Trigger Massive Landslide Failure.
The study looked at how the water level changes in the Three Gorges reservoir, along with heavy rainfall, can affect the stability of the Shuping landslide. By using a software called ABAQUS, researchers found that when the reservoir water level drops and heavy rainfall occurs, the stress and water flow within the landslide change significantly. This combination greatly increases the likelihood of the landslide failing, which could lead to significant damage.
