New study reveals key to predicting high quality sandbodies.
The researchers studied the sedimentary facies of the Shanxi Formation in the northeastern Ordos Basin. They found that fluvial outwash plays a key role in forming high-quality reservoirs in the area. A new sedimentary system concept called wetland-strong erosion-restricted channel incised valley fill was proposed. This helps in predicting sandbody distribution and exploration deployment in the region.
