The researchers studied changes in the landscape of Yinjinhuoluo county in China's Ordos Plateau. They used land use maps from 1984, 1991, and 1998 to analyze different types of patches like grassland and farmland. The results showed that the landscape became more fragmented and less complex over time. Shrub and farmland patches played a big role in these changes. Overall, the landscape became more complex but only in small areas.
