The researchers studied different types of sedimentary systems in the Qikou sag area. They found four main systems: fan delta, braided delta, distal subaqueous fan, and lake systems. These systems were controlled by various faults in the region. The sand bodies in the area indicated the presence of fan delta in steep backgrounds, braided delta in the northern Qikou sag, distal subaqueous fan near certain faults, and lake systems in specific areas. Based on their findings, three favorable areas for potential resource exploration were identified: fan delta front sand in Banqiao sag, braided delta sand in the northern Qikou sag, and distal subaqueous fan sand in the middle of the Qikou sag.
