Revolutionary Large Boreholes Improve Coal Mine Gas Drainage Efficiency Dramatically
Coal mines are using big surface boreholes to drain gas from underground areas. By studying mining impacts and gas drainage methods, researchers found that large boreholes work better than regular ones. They can capture more gas, especially methane, and last longer. Boreholes on the return side of the mine are more effective than those on the intake side, capturing more gas and controlling methane concentration better.
