A new type of early indica hybrid rice called You I 98 was created by Chinese scientists. It has high yield, is resistant to diseases like blast and brown plant hopper, has good grain quality, produces a lot of seeds, and can grow well in many different places. It was approved for farmers to use in Zhejiang Province in April 2000.
