New study finds different seedling substrates lead to lower rice yields.
The study compared different types of seedling substrates for machine-transplanted rice. Results showed that seedlings grown in substrates had lighter leaf color and poorer quality compared to those grown in nutrient soil. However, the root quality of matrix seedlings was better. After transplanting, seedlings from nutrient soil had higher survival rates and grew faster in the field. The final yield of nutrient soil seedlings was similar to Changzhou Lihua and Xinghua xintuyuan, but lower for other substrates.
