Toxic Mercury Levels Threaten Wuhan's Urban Lakes and Fish Supply
Mercury pollution in lakes around Wuhan City, China was studied. Water, sediment, and fish samples were collected from different lakes. The levels of mercury in fish were mostly within safe limits, except for snakehead from Lake Liangzi. Water from Lake Jinyin had higher mercury levels than recommended, but other lakes were okay. Overall, mercury pollution in Wuhan's urban lakes is not severe. Sediment from Lake East poses the highest ecological risk, followed by Lake Moshui, Lake Jinyin, Lake Liangzi, Lake Tangxun, and Lake Lu.
