No-tillage farming reduces rice yield but increases lodging risk and root growth.
The study looked at how using no-tillage affects the quality of mechanical transplanting, growth, and grain yield of rice. They found that under no-tillage, soil density decreased and seedling planting depth decreased, leading to more lodging and floating seedlings. The total root biomass decreased, but the upper root percentage increased. However, grain yield decreased under no-tillage due to more panicles per square meter but fewer grains per panicle, lower seed setting rate, and lighter grains.
