Economic growth in China fails to improve environmental quality, study finds.
The study looked at pollution data in different Chinese provinces from 1997 to 2006 to see how economic growth affects the environment. They found that as the economy grows, the environment gets a little better, but other factors have uncertain effects. The relationship between economic growth and pollution mostly forms a curve shape, not a straight line. So, the idea of a clear pattern where pollution first gets worse then improves as the economy grows doesn't hold true for China's provinces.
