Glacier melt accelerates, leading to increased runoff in Urumqi River.
The study looked at how the amount of water flowing in the Urumqi River has changed over the past 50 years. They found that the runoff from the three hydrological stations in the area has generally increased, except for one station. The amount of water flowing from Glacier No.1 station was mainly influenced by temperature, while the runoff at Empty Cirque station was affected by both precipitation and temperature. The runoff at Zongkong station, however, decreased despite rising temperatures and more rainfall, possibly due to factors like glacier melting and increased evaporation.
