Erect-panicle rice varieties show higher yield and quality under new farming method.
A study compared different types of rice plants to see how they grow and what quality of rice they produce when given different amounts of nutrients. The study found that rice plants with upright panicles produced more rice than those with semi-upright or curved panicles. All types of rice plants produced more rice when given more nutrients, but the quality of the rice varied. Upright panicle plants had shorter gel consistency and higher protein content compared to other types. The amount of chalkiness in the rice also changed with different nutrient levels.
