Fractal soil study reveals key to boosting crop fertility in Anhui.
The study looked at the soil in the southern area of Anhui Province and found that the fractal dimension of particle surfaces in paddy soil ranged from 2.6717 to 2.9117. The fractal dimensions were strongly linked to the amounts of sand, silt, and clay in the soil. Specifically, the fractal dimensions were negatively related to coarse and fine sand, but positively related to silt and clay. The study also showed that the fractal dimension can be used as a measure of soil fertility, instead of looking at the composition of soil particles.
