Alpine Grasslands Store Massive Carbon Reserves, Impacting Climate Change
The researchers estimated the amount of organic carbon stored in the Bayinbuluke alpine grassland ecosystem by combining field surveys, remote sensing data, and GIS techniques. They found that the above-ground vegetation stores about 44.44% of the total carbon, while the underground root system stores around 55.56%. The average carbon content in the soil is 16.801 C kg/m^2, with a total soil organic carbon storage of about 3,019.244×10^4 tons.
