Corn Stalk Breakthrough Boosts Biofuel Production, Transforming Energy Landscape
Researchers improved the sugar yield from corn stalks by using a special method after steam treatment. They found the best conditions to get the most sugar: mix 53.28 grams of corn stalks per liter with 53.32 units of cellulase enzyme, and wait for 60.45 hours. This process increased sugar production by 170% compared to untreated stalks. The treated stalks had more cellulose and were easier for enzymes to break down, leading to better sugar yield.
