The study analyzed urban heat islands in Dongying city using Landsat TM images from 1999, 2005, and 2009. The research found that the heat island effect was prominent in densely inhabited and industrial areas, but vegetation and water helped reduce its impact as the city expanded. The distribution of heat islands widened over time, showing both small and large areas affected. With increased focus on environmental management and urban greenery, the heat island effect in Dongying is predicted to weaken over the next decade, albeit at a slow pace.
