After the Ming Dynasty fell, people in Beijing supported a new regime but it was defeated by the Qing Dynasty. People resisted the Qing rule and looked to the Zhu family in Nanjing for hope. The Qing Dynasty faced strong opposition, with many supporting the former Ming kings. People fled to Nanjing when Beijing was taken, weakening the Qing rule in Hebei and Shandong. This situation created an opportunity to establish a new stable regime and reclaim lost territories.
