High-yield mung beans promise increased crop production and food security
Photosynthesis is crucial for crop growth, and high photosynthetic rates in leaves lead to higher crop yields. A study looked at different mung bean varieties to understand how photosynthesis affects seed yield. They found that leaves gradually aged after flowering, with lower photosynthetic rates, chlorophyll, and protein content. High-yield varieties maintained higher photosynthetic capacity, leading to more photosynthates. Leaves at upper nodes had better photosynthetic capacity than lower nodes. Maintaining high chlorophyll and protein content in leaves can increase crop yield.
