Watermelon Ploidy Determines Sugar Content: Impact on Taste and Nutrition!
The study compared sugar contents in different types of watermelon fruits with varying ploidy levels. They found that the amounts of fructose, glucose, sucrose, and total sugar varied depending on the ploidy group. Specifically, total sugar and fructose levels followed the order 4x > 3x > 2x, glucose levels were highest in 4x, followed by 2x and then 3x, and sucrose levels were highest in 3x, followed by 4x and then 2x.
