Organic Fertilizer Boosts Broccoli Yield and Quality for Export Market.
Different types of fertilizers were tested on broccoli to see how they affected the yield and quality of the heads. Organic fertilizer was found to increase both the yield and quality of the broccoli compared to chemical fertilizer. The best results were seen with a combination of organic and chemical fertilizer. Using only chemical nitrogen fertilizer did not improve yield or quality. Organic-chemical compound fertilizer and refined organic fertilizer increased head yield, chlorophyll content, soluble sugars content, Vc content, and PAL activity, while decreasing SOD activity. There were negative relationships between nitrogen fertilizer and Vc content, and positive correlations between SOD activity, chlorophyll content, and nitrogen fertilizer. Additive effects were observed between nitrogen and boron fertilizer.
