Newly inbred maize lines show high potential for improved crop yield.
Researchers analyzed the breeding potential of 20 new inbred corn lines from two synthetic populations. They crossed these lines with four local maize lines to study their combining ability and heterosis. The results showed that some inbred lines performed well in terms of yield traits, indicating their potential for breeding programs. One specific cross showed the highest effects for specific traits. Hybrids between the new inbred lines and certain testers had good yield potential, suggesting the possibility of creating high-yielding hybrid combinations.
