Optimal rice planting density boosts yield to over 8,700 kg/hm2.
The study looked at how the growth and yield of a type of rice called “Jinongda 3” changed when planted at different densities. They found that increasing the density led to more tillers and leaves, but the number of panicles and grains varied. Plant height and grain weight stayed the same. The best density for the highest yield was 30 cm x 17 cm (20 holes per square meter), with a potential yield of over 8,700 kg per hectare with good irrigation.
