Soil texture impacts N2O emissions, heavy soil types contribute more.
The type of soil and environmental factors like temperature and humidity affect the amount of N2O gas released from farmland. Clay soil releases more N2O than sandy soil. Deeper soil and adding nitrogen fertilizer increase N2O emissions. Warmer temperatures and higher soil moisture also lead to more N2O being released. Overall, heavy clay soil in dry areas emits more N2O than light sandy soil.
