Leaves with Yellow and Green Colors Have Higher Photosynthesis Rates
The study looked at how a type of bamboo plant called Hibanobambus tranguillans f. shiroshima uses sunlight to make food. They found that the plant's photosynthesis rate had two peaks during the day, at 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. The rate was affected by light, temperature, humidity, and how open the plant's pores were. Leaves with both yellow and green colors had higher photosynthesis rates than fully green ones. Younger leaves were thicker and had higher photosynthesis rates than older leaves. The amount of chlorophyll in the leaves didn't change much, but the ratio of different types of chlorophyll was different in younger and older leaves.
