Tibetan Plateau Monsoon Shifts Triggering Extreme Rainfall in East China.
The Tibetan Plateau summer monsoon has been getting stronger over the past 50 years, affecting rainfall patterns in East China. This change in monsoon intensity alters the Asian atmospheric circulation, leading to increased rainfall in the middle-lower Yangtze River region and decreased rainfall in North and South China. The researchers used correlation, wavelet, and cross-spectral analyses to study the relationship between the plateau summer monsoon and precipitation in East China. They found that the strengthening of the monsoon may be linked to increased temperature differences between the Tibetan Plateau and surrounding plains, particularly in eastern China.
