Red tide threat in Bohai Bay increases with dominant phytoplankton species.
The researchers studied the types of tiny plants in Bohai Bay during the summer of 2006. They found that diatoms were the most common, but dinoflagellates were also important in some areas. The most common species were C.granii Gough, C.asteromphalus, C.jonesianus, and Biddulphia sinensis. Diatoms were most abundant at the fourth station.
