The amount of sediment in the Yangtze River is changing over time. Sediment levels are decreasing at some stations and tributaries, like Hankou and Hanjiang River, but increasing in Jinshajiang. Less sediment is reaching Dongting Lake, leading to more sediment in the lower river. Predictions show possible changes in sediment levels downstream of Yichang, which is important for managing the Three Gorges Project.
