Unsustainable Resource Use Threatens Huangshi's Ecological Future
In Huangshi, researchers measured how much land people used and how much the land could support from 1999 to 2004. They found that individuals there used more land each year, creating a problem because the region's land can't keep up with this usage. The average person's land use increased from about 1.8 hectares in 1999 to 2.3 hectares in 2004, while the available land was only enough for about 0.51 hectares per person. This means people are using up natural resources faster than the land can handle, which can harm the environment and make it hard to sustain for the future.
