New Maize Variety Density Boosts Yield, But Reduces Individual Plant Output
The researchers studied how different planting densities affect the yield and traits of a new type of early maturing maize called Biandan No.3. They found that the yield of Biandan No.3 increased first and then decreased as the planting density increased. The highest yield was achieved at a density of 67,500 plants per hectare. Plant height and ear height increased with density, while 100-kernel weight and kernel weight per ear decreased. The yield per plant decreased as density increased.
