Climate change impacting vegetation coverage in Northwestern China, study finds.
The study looked at how vegetation in northwest China changed from 1981 to 2001 due to climate factors. They used data on vegetation, temperature, and precipitation to see how vegetation coverage varied over time. They found that vegetation was at its best in July and August when it was warmer and wetter. In dry years, vegetation didn't grow as well as in wet years, especially in summer. Overall, vegetation improved from 1981 to 1995 but got worse in some areas from 1996 to 2001.
