New wheat varieties show higher phosphorus efficiency, boosting crop yields.
The study looked at different types of spring wheat grown with and without enough phosphorus. They checked the plants at two different times to see how they were doing. They found that certain plant traits at the mature stage can show how well the wheat can handle not having enough phosphorus or getting extra phosphorus. The amount of phosphorus in the plants at the early stage didn't really show how well the wheat would do later on. The weight of the plants above ground and the number of secondary roots can show how well the wheat can take in phosphorus.
