Irrigation revolution saves water, prevents soil salinization for millions.
In this study, a new method for designing irrigation systems focused on using water efficiently and preventing salt buildup. By considering how much water is needed in the entire irrigation area and balancing the amount of salt in the water, the researchers designed a system that reduced water usage by 10% to 20% compared to traditional methods. This approach aims to stop the soil from becoming too salty by managing the drainage of excess water. The developed system can be applied to different types of irrigation districts, including those that use a mix of canals and wells, and could also help improve existing irrigation systems.
