Masson's Pine in Three Gorges Reservoir Area boosts water conservation efforts.
The study measured water movement in a forest area near the Three Gorges Reservoir. They found that most of the rainwater (76.70%) reached the ground through the trees, with a small amount running down the tree trunks (0.27%). The trees' leaves also caught some rain (23.03%). The forest floor can hold up to 3.40 mm of water, and the soil below can store 183.60 mm. The amount and intensity of rain affect how much water reaches the ground and trees.
