1/3 of Winter Wheat Water Lost to Evaporation, Impacting Crop Yield.
The study looked at how much water winter wheat plants use and lose through evaporation. They used special equipment to measure this in the field over a year. The results showed that winter wheat plants used a total of 360.974 mm of water. Most of this water was lost through evaporation, with 32.8% of the total water used being lost this way. The plants used the most water during the heading-filling stage. Soil also lost water through evaporation, with the highest amount happening during the sowing to tillering stage. Overall, about one-third of the water used by winter wheat plants was lost through evaporation.
