By analyzing the density of dry soil, the amount of water the soil can hold, and the air spaces in the soil, researchers found that denser soil has less space for water. They also discovered that the weight of water the soil can hold is related to how dry the soil is. This information can help farmers easily figure out how dry the soil is by measuring the water content, which is important in areas where droughts happen often.
