Honghu wetland landscape changes threaten biodiversity and ecological balance.
The researchers studied changes in Honghu wetland landscape types from 1974 to 2010 using satellite data. They found that the number of wetland patches increased, leading to more fragmented wetlands. Some wetland types, like dry land and farm ponds, had more fluctuations in area. Freshwater aquaculture ponds grew the fastest. The total edge length and area of different wetland types were similar. The most significant change was seen in the circumference surface integral dimension of irrigation ditches.
