Silicon boosts cucumber plant growth and photosynthesis under salt stress.
Exogenous silicon helps cucumber plants grow better under salty conditions. When exposed to salt stress, cucumber seedlings had reduced growth and photosynthesis. But when treated with silicon, the negative effects of salt stress were lessened. Salt stress changed the structure of the plants' photosynthetic apparatus, but silicon application reversed these changes. This shows that silicon can improve the ability of cucumber plants to tolerate salt stress by enhancing their photosynthetic efficiency.
