Soil texture and water quality impact desert soil moisture evaporation.
Researchers studied how soil texture and the amount and quality of irrigation water affect soil moisture evaporation in the Taklimakan Desert. They found that sandy soil evaporates more water and retains less compared to loam and sandy loam. With enough water, evaporation increases steadily over time, but with limited water, it increases more slowly. Initial soil moisture content affects evaporation, and higher irrigation water salinity can decrease soil evaporation.
