Vast Untapped Methane Reserves in China's Ordos Basin Could Fuel Energy Transition
The study looked at the potential for extracting coalbed methane from low rank coal in the Ordos Basin. They found that the coal in this area is low rank, thick, and has good conditions for holding methane. Compared to a similar area in the US, the Ordos Basin has potential for developing coalbed methane. With China having a lot of low rank coal and good geological conditions, there is a need to explore coalbed methane reservoirs in the Ordos Basin.
