New research reveals optimal salinity levels for successful fish incubation.
The study tested different salt levels on embryos and larvae of Paralichthys olivaceus. They found that salinity levels between 10 and 35 are best for hatching and growth. Most larvae survived well at these levels, with normal development. Lower salinity levels resulted in slightly longer larvae, but overall size was similar after 72 hours. The yolk-sac of the larvae grew normally within a range of 5 to 45 salinity.
