Ancient river deposits reveal clues to past climate changes in China.
The 1st member of the Middle Jurassic Yan'an Formation in western Mahuangshan, Ordos Basin consists of fluvial sedimentary deposits, including braided and meandering stream deposits. Two main subfacies were identified: riverbed and overbank, with various microfacies like channel bars and point bars. The sedimentary system was dominated by braided stream deposits during the Yan-10 oil measures, with NW to SE oriented palaeocurrents. Meandering stream deposits prevailed during the Yan-9 oil measures due to lake-level rising.
