Toxic Pollution Chokes Wangyu River, Threatening Millions in Taihu Basin
The western part of Wangyu River is heavily polluted by nitrogen and phosphorus, mainly from household and industrial sources. The pollution is a big problem for the area, affecting the water quality greatly. The study found that chemicals like NH3-N, TN, and TP contribute significantly to the pollution levels. Factories, especially the printing and dyeing industry, are major contributors to this issue. Cities like Zhangjiagang and Jiangyin are key sources of these pollutants. However, by implementing pollution control measures and environmental improvements, the study predicts that the pollution levels can be significantly reduced by around 30-50%, thereby improving the water quality in the region.
