Overgrazing Threatens Biodiversity and Productivity of Alpine Grasslands in China.
Different levels of grazing intensity were studied in alpine grasslands near Qinghai Lake to see how they affect plant diversity and productivity. The researchers found that moderate grazing led to the highest species diversity, while high grazing reduced diversity. As grazing intensity increased, overall productivity decreased. Grasses and legumes were particularly affected by grazing, with their productivity decreasing significantly. The study also showed a strong relationship between plant productivity and diversity indices. Overall, grazing intensity plays a crucial role in shaping both the diversity and productivity of alpine grassland ecosystems.
