Lung injury treatment breakthrough: Ambroxol and dexamethasone combo boosts surfactant protein, restores breathing.
In this study, researchers wanted to see how a combination of two drugs, ambroxol and dexamethasone, affects a lung protein called SP-A in rats with acute lung injury caused by a bacterial component. The rats were split into different groups and given different treatments. They found that in rats with the lung injury, the levels of SP-A were lower, but when treated with ambroxol or dexamethasone alone, the SP-A levels increased. However, when the two drugs were used together, the increase in SP-A levels was even higher. This suggests that ambroxol and dexamethasone, when used together, can help improve SP-A levels in the lungs of rats with acute lung injury caused by bacterial components.
