Human activities in Daya Bay lead to drastic decrease in species diversity.
The study looked at the species diversity of small sea creatures in Daya Bay, South China Sea. They found that human activities have reduced the number of species since 1987. In 2004, there were 79 different species. The diversity was highest in the outer bay and lowest in the center and inner bay. The types of species changed with the seasons, with more diversity in the wet season. The researchers also noticed that the abundance of certain species fluctuated with water temperature.
