Water in coal beds complicates how stress affects coal reservoirs. High pressure reduces gas permeability significantly, especially in wet samples. The more water in the coal, the more sensitive it is to stress. This sensitivity greatly impacts gas output from coalbeds. Increasing pressure doesn't help increase gas output, especially at the start of production.
