Study reveals macrophytes key to reducing phosphorus pollution in lakes
Researchers studied phosphorus in sediments from 22 shallow lakes in China's Changjiang River region. They found that bioavailable phosphorus, which affects water quality, is mainly in exchangeable, aluminum, and iron forms. Lakes with more macrophytes have lower phosphorus levels in water. The type of phosphorus in sediment influences phosphorus levels in lake water.
